Can you tell what's wrong with this 747? Besides the fact that it's decorated like a Saint Patrick's Day float?
Well, it's got five engines. Sortof.
It turns out that 747s are equipped from the factory to support a fifth, but disabled, engine under the port wing pylon. The idea is that the engines are so big that it's not a bad idea to be able to ferry them outside the aircraft. That way, you can bolt one on at a facility where they don't have the tools to bolt engines on, and take it to a ... fuck, right.
Since 747s aren't too cost-effective as engine escorts, this never really caught on.
But I suppose it's a good idea. Sortof.
