I've owned a lot of cars. At last count, the number had just cracked two digits (Dart, GL, XT, Volvo, Talon, 4Runner, Bug, Camry, Scirocco, BMW, ...right). I'm not really sure why that is, but I think it may be because I've got a penchant for tiny crapmobiles that only last for a few years. I suppose that in my mind, a string of ten $600 cars that each last two years is infinitely better than a single $6000 car that lasts twenty. Chances are that I won't lose nearly as much money on the econoboxes, either.
But whatever my habits are, some of these cars have a really special place in my heart. One of the most fantastic (if not the most fantastic) little cars I've owned is my old Subaru XT.
The XT is the one on the left.
I really adore the XT design—it's one of Subaru's nuttiest designs (save maybe the XT's successor, the SVX) and has loads of goofy toys. A single wiper blade, digital dashboard, pneumatic height-adjustable suspension, etc. Nearly everything on the car was assembled with some sort of gizmo or gadget to attract the ludicrously electro-wizardry-minded of the 1980s. Remember that this was in the era of the very first CD players.
My Subaru XT was outfitted with all the damned toys—it was a turbocharged 4WD model that, as I'm finding out now, is fairly rare. It's the kind of car that I'd love to own again, but it's nearly impossible to find a copy in as fantastic shape as mine was. Damn.
Somewhat unfortunately, I didn't really realize what I had and sold off my blue Subaru XT GL-10 to a guy who was willing to rebuild the engine that I wasn't. He ended up bolting everything together again (without rebuilding it completely, as I remember) and sold it to another high-schooler who promptly ripped the front bumper off in an accident. Terrible.
So, back to why I'm posting. For a very long time, I thought that I didn't have any pictures whatsoever of my Subaru. It's only a somewhat recent thing that I'm total picture whore and prior to me getting this new-fangled "digital film" I had probably taken a grand-total of 200 pictures in my entire life. Pictures of the XT were somewhat unlikely.
I actually stole a picture off the net for my sarcastic cars page. The color was about the same as my XT, but still—it wasn't my car.
I'm happy to announce that thanks to a run-through I did of all my photos a while back, I've found pictures of the XT. Enjoy!
Oh man. I'd like to get me some more of that.

Awesome yo! I had a baby blue XT and loved it - no back seat; came with a sticker that said "Cargo Area only; not safe for passengers." No seat belts back there. I topped out at 4 people back there. Loved that ride. LOVED IT!
Richard-
TOTALLY HOT! Double props for the back-seat-less wedgemobile!
