I [heart] autocross. It's more fun-for-your-dollar than nearly anything else you can legally do in a full-size car. For between $25 and $40 a day, you get to drive your car around parking cones laid out in an ad-hoc track in a parking lot while a bunch of other folks watch you and wait their turn. I've been autocrossing intermittently for over five years now, and it's great fun.
But I haven't been autocrossing at all since I've gotten to Washington. Getting moved and working put me in a situation where my first real bouts of free time were occuring right around when the 2005 season was winding down. Now, the 2006 season is starting up, and I'm getting in on the action.
To anyone in the Seattle area: I encourage you to participate. This is seriously fun stuff. Especially if you've got a, you know, car.
You can get more information over at the Western Washington Sports Car Council website. The first WWSCC event is on Sunday the 22nd and is happening up at a Boeing parking lot in Everett. It's $25 if you preregister (plus $5 for a rulebook if you don't have one) although it's worth mentioning that the WWSCC insurance does not cover passengers (unlike SCCA insurance) so it's simply not allowed.
I'm sure there will be more postings as we get closer to the start. And a whole bunch afterward. Woooo!
