Trying to write the BMW 2002 article

| | Comments (8)

Some of you may have noticed that it's been a while since my last collectibles article. In fact, it's been over a week—which is longer than the break I took between the Fiat X1/9 and the, err, Chrysler J and K. Unlike the J and K, which failed to excite me specifically because they were uninteresting cars from an uninteresting manufacturer; the 2002 fails to excite me because it's an uninteresting car from an otherwise brilliant manufacturer. I lamented exactly this before when I wrote the article for the BMW 8 Series; I respect BMW immensely and yet I'm stuck trying to say glorious things about a really run-of-the-mill car. It's disappointing.

Now, I've considered that BMW simply isn't all that capable to begin with—the latest 7 is a bit of a horror and the Z3 left me colder than Münich in Januar, but they've also cranked out beauties like the E34 and E39 5ers, the E36 3, and pretty much anything to ever wear an M. So really, I've got no fault with BMW.

But the 2002? Bah. Let's hope I can get this article done soon.

Dare I say it, perhaps you could turn to Mr J. Shorty for insperation on this one.

Also, maybe his tast in cars could be the driving force in the "collectability" of the 2002.... oh my god I've had way to much to dirnk.

Oh, I know why the 2002 is supposed to be neat—it's old and German and light and turns well and all that rot.

I'll get to all the nitty-gritty in my article, but I contend that BMW didn't really "figure things out" until the 1984 E30 3 series.

If Justin has any commentary, I'd love to hear it. Paging Justin: do you have your tickets?

Oh, and your second comment is absolutely priceless. I nearly peed myself reading it.

Bitches.

That's your commentary? Bitches?

Run of the mill...blasphemous fool. Why don't you try driving one? Duh?

Or sit next to me while I show you how to corner on three wheels.

That'll fix your block.

Sorry if I've taken this a bit too literally, but "Blasphemous fool" is one of the many reasons I write articles like these. It seems like the only articles out there about cars are the ones written by rabid fanboys. I'm certainly not interested in listening to the converted preach about whatever it is that they're going on about—and I don't think most of my readers are, either.

Accordingly, I often get offers to go for a spin in order to "fix my block" about a certain type of car. I think that's really missing the point; but, I'm more than willing to discuss any new points I haven't yet considered.

Not bad... Not bad.
