Furniture finishing 101

| | Comments (0)

I've titled this post Furniture finishing 101 because that's really what I'm in need of.

This weekend, we're embarking on staining furniture. Wish us luck.

So here's what's happened so far: about six months ago, Layla and I bought this absolutely awesome dresser from an unfinished furniture store in Redmond. Since we didn't have anywhere to work on it, we simply used it as is—with the intention that when we found someplace that had a garage, we'd go ahead and stain the sucker.

Well, we have a garage now, so the sucker shall be stained.

We've so far bought all the parts required (pre stain conditioner, stain, polyurethane) and I've taken most of the hardware (and door) off and have sanded down a few of the dresser bits. Tomorrow morning, I'll finish sanding and then plan on hitting everything with the conditioner. Details pending.
