Splitting /dev/null

| | Comments (0)

I'm going to take all of the automotive content here at /dev/null and spin it into another journal.

The rationale behind this is that /dev/null has evolved a bit beyond what it was originally supposed to be: a way for me to dump links and interesting stories for close friends. In the 14+ months that I've been online, I've gone from making short goofy posts and long academic ranty posts to trimming out the garbage and filling in with a car post or two.

The problem with this is that although it works great for me as an author, it's less than optimal for you as the reader. There are admittedly a few of you who have known me for long enough that you can probably tolerate all the diversity in the posts, but that doesn't mean that all of you do. I think that sinning the automotive content off will let everyone focus a bit more on what they're really genuinely interested in.

My plan right now is to spin off everything automotive-related on the site. In order to keep me honest ... writing, I'm going to keep making at least one post to each of the two journals every day. Now that I'm out of school, it's sometimes difficult to arrange enough daily non-automotive content for /dev/null, so I won't try to knock myself out by committing to a post on two journals every day.

I haven't worked out all the details, but I do expect to have a new site set up shortly. Stay tuned for details.
