It's a Chevy C/K, and it was most definitely shot on I-25 just north of the Albuquerque airport.

Perhapes he just moved the handle to the front and left the hindges and latch in the stock location. This would be to either require more force to open the door and get a workout when entering the vehicle, or to psych people out who believe that he did do a suicide-door modification.
