Both the bedroom and office of our townhome are on the third floor, and we've got a peaked roof. So instead of making the top of those two rooms boring, the architect/builders decided to put in a shelf that runs the length of one wall and goes back a good two or three feet. This whole thing is up eight feet in the air and makes for a really tempting spot to put cats.
When we moved in, we guessed that the cats would find a way to sneak up there and we'd have a hard time getting them down. As it turns out, they've never made it up to the ledges on their own. That we know of.
So the other night Layla and I decided to stick a cat or two up on the ledge to see if they liked it. Aleph seemed to enjoy it for about fifteen minutes until he seemed to get scared and starting meowing. The picture at right is me holding his favorite napping spot (yes, the dirty laundry hamper) up so he can climb in—which he did.
We stuck Fifo up there a bit later but he was much more difficult to coax down. I ended up having to move a table so I could reach back far enough to grab the little sucker and pull him down.
Maybe eventually we'll put up some cat furniture so they can climb up there whenever they want.

Our cat Chihiro had a similar height experience when she climbed from my shoulder up to the top of the door to the computer room. Behold, Cat On Door
Ok. Just click on the link then. http://infohost.nmt.edu/~redshift/cat_on_door.jpg
Super-duper cute.
And Chihiro—I presume from Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi?
Oh yes. She's got a brother, by the name of Haku, too.
Oh that's awesome.
And oddly enough, that's the only big release Miyazaki film I haven't bought yet. Have you seen Porco Rosso? I think that's one of my favorites.
Haven't seen it, but it'll be in the Netflix queue shortly!
