That's right. I finally talked her into it.
How I talked her into it was the A.C.E. Ladies Practice, held today at the Boeing plant up in Everett—the same spot as the novice school I attended about a month ago.
The Ladies Practice is an annual event sponsored by the clubs to let the fairer gender get some good track time in and to recruit new ladies into the sport. Normal autocross (and novice school) rules dictate that you work the course for about as long as you drive on the course—but as I've come to realize, the laws of space and time warp in the presence of a woman...and so instead of working, the ladies just got to drive while volunteer men worked the course for them.
I was one such volunteer. I shagged cones1 for around four hours in the morning while Layla and the other autocrossettes got effectively unlimited track time, then drove for an hour while they had lunch. After that, I ran after cones for another 60 or 90 minutes or so, and then we left.
Somewhat unfortunately, the track was bone-dry from 8am through around 11:15am, when it started raining heavily until 12:30. This meant that the track was sopping wet from 11:45 through to 1pm, which sucks, because that was exactly when I was driving.
Clearly, more evidence that God is, in fact, a woman.
1 Ran and picked up fallen cones. Not literally "shagged" cones.
