I admit, I forgot to mention: Layla beat my time at the autocross. Badly. She managed a 51.778 and my best time was a lousy stinking 53.306.
So what the heck happened? Well, it turns out that Layla now has more track time in the BMW than I do. In her 5 hours at the course, she got 25 runs in—which is absolutely amazing, given that it was an autocross. This is entirely due to the guys who volunteered to work the course while the ladies went 'round and 'round.
Plus, I got to drive during the soggiest part of the day, while Layla got bone-dry track both before and after the men's lunch hour drive fest. The chart at the right shows Layla's times as they got progressively better during the day. The first few runs were in the high-60 second range and she managed to improve her times by a solid 12 seconds. Awesome. Plus, she only hit three cones in her 25 runs, which is a hell of a feat. Those three cones are shown adjusted in pink.
The guys didn't get recorded times (they only read them over the PA) but my best time was a 53.306, shown as the yellow triangle at-midday. You can see how Layla's times got worse as the track got damp, and then better as it dried out again.
With the driving conditions included, you totally kicked my butt.
And considering the condition of my driving, I'm not at all surprised you got better times.
