I've been back up in the air twice (and out to the airport thrice) but I'm already struck by how damned long it takes to get from the work or house all the way out to Crest Airpark.
Crest is way far south—it's almost all the way down in Auburn, which is way down near Tacoma. From the Microsoft campus it's at least a 45-minute drive and that's without traffic, unusual congestion in Auburn (which I've hit during off-traffic hours), railroad crossings (also hit this one last time) and so forth. Even during off-peak hours, it's been taking me between 60 and 75 minutes.
In contrast, the drive from Socorro to Double Eagle Airport in New Mexico was around 95 minutes each way—but it seemed so much shorter, and it certainly seemed like much less of a time crunch. This is a good thing because it means I've got better and more important things to occupy my time out here in Washington than I did out in New Mexico (sortof a given) but it also makes scheduling flight time a total pain in the ass. Add to this that my Aikido classes limit my working hours on Wednesdays and Fridays, and that it rains out here pretty damned often—it's taking some effort to keep everything in order.
