Yes, the rides at Universal Orlando were a giant scam, but the park itself had one awesome moment that redeemed the entire experience.
Part of the park is a giant lake, and on that giant lake are four or five ... bigass balls. They're probably 10m across and have projection systems built inside of them so that when the sun goes down, they can project movie clips for everyone outside to watch. Some exec said, "Disney has the light parade—make us something just as good!" and then was disappointed with the result.
Universal put on a healthy 45-minute-long clip show involving snippets from all of their most popular movies (The Mummy, Men In Black, etc.) but halfway through, they stuck in a 3- or 4-second clip from This Island, Earth.
Awesome.
