In celebration of actually having a running vintage automobile, I drove it to the office today. Admittedly, a big part of the reasoning behind taking the Mercedes today was that I would already be delayed by a few hours to let the apartment fixit guy in, so I was assured to avoid traffic—which is easily by biggest concern when driving that car. There's nothing better than a car with vague cold and off-throttle performance when you're in stop-and-go traffic.
But fantastically, the old beast made it there and back—and even managed 60mph on the highway.
It's reminded me, however, that there are still a few important things left to fix. Of priority is fixing the two broken window regulators and replacing all the hardware in the doors (handles, knobs, door cards, etc.). Additionally, I really need to track down the remaining fuel fume source and lube the throttle cable.
But beyond that, it's a real hoot to drive. I'm looking forward to taking it back out on the road on Thursday when again, I have to wait for Captain Fix-it-up to take care of the caulking in my bathrooms.
