Finally, 1:1 comment ratio

| | Comments (7)

Continuing last night's comment theme, I figured I'd write tonight about a special milestone I've just met: I've now got as many comments as posts here on /dev/null/.

This is sortof a big deal because I've been keeping this journal for the last twenty months and during the entire time, the total comment count has been below (often far below) the post count. Part of this is because I was posting nearly a dozen entries a day back in the beginning, but part of it too is because I vary what I'm writing about often enough to shake off even the most dedicated commenter.

But nevertheless, I'm finally at that magical point. And I got there with this comment, left on last night's post by, well, me:

Crap yeah.

Magical.

P.S. No, I didn't break the count with this post—Crap yeah was comment 1037, and this is post 1037.

It seems bitter sweet that the particular comment that broke the mile stone was so simply well exicuted - almost as if you'ld planed it that knowing it would set you ot a 1:1 ratio.

This reminds me, I need to start saying cool things like "crap yeah" in everyday converstaion. I'll also take this opertunity to mention that i'll also be trying to incorperate the words "erroneous" and "conundrum".

Nice. I seem to have a 1:2 comment-to-article ratio myself, which is pretty lame.

I can imagine an "ask slashdot" post along the lines of, "What post-to-comment ratio should I be shooting for?" And it's kinda sad. Not so much because of the topic, but because _I_ can imagine it so clearly.

Raven-

Fuckin' a.

Daniel-

I lamented that for a really damn long time. Even when I passed my 800th post six months ago, I was only at 500 comments.

Rob-

"What blog template will make me look clever and insightful?"

So, did you actively decide to improve it? What did you do about it? Or did it just kind of fix itself?

Sortof fixed itself. I've also found that the shorter the post, the more likely it is to get comments (with the exception of the automotive articles—but those work only because they're really domain-specific).

Hooray, beer !!1 Oh wrong topic. Grats on this momentus occsion.
