This is a photograph I took a few minutes ago outside my apartment. Yes, it's midnight—and if you look closely, you'll see that yes, there is still bumper-to-bumper traffic out here. There are brakelights as far as the eye can see in that photo. The road curves upward so that the lights you can see just to the right of the small sedan in front of the red Pathfinder are all taillights about a half-mile up the road.
The only reason I was out in the first place was that I was moving the Toyota from the church lot down the street where we left it earlier tonight in favor of walking home. I had hoped that traffic would have died down by now...but it took me about 30 minutes to round-trip the car back to my garage, nearly 25 of which were spent sitting in traffic.
A few hundred feet of traffic. Absolutely incredible.
