So close, but now a fuel leak

| | Comments (0)

At around 8am, I started attacking the list of items remaining to complete the BMW. Now, around six hours later, I've just started the car.

...and noticed it's sprinkling fuel from underneath the intake manifold.

This is a huge pain in my ass, and will be something I'll tackle tomorrow. I figure I can remove all of the smaller components and the intake manifold within 30 or 45 minutes—which is sortof nice. From there, it's a matter of pulling enough apart to figure out where the fuel leak has originated.

The one upside to this is that it's going to give me an opportunity to fix the three "oops" moments I had when reassembling the car: the sheet metal screw used to secure the windshield cover to the electronic distribution box (dropped somewhere under the intake manifold); a bolt that ties the manifold to a supporting brace, only because the bracket was bent a bit and was extremely inconvenient to fix with the manifold in place; and the fuel line clamps, which have seen better times but which I declined to replace because I'm out of spares and I couldn't really buy any replacements today.

Gah. It's a good thing this has all happened in my garage.
