I've mentioned the LeMay auto museum enough times now that it may be clear that I think it's a pretty cool place. Loads and loads of vintage autos, and most in fantastic shape.
What I haven't yet mentioned is that during my trip to the museum a bit over a week ago, I picked up a volunteer application. And presuming I can set it all up this weekend, I'll probably be talking with someone from the volunteer staff to see how I can help out way down there in southern Tacoma.
I'm in absolutely no desperate need to fill my, ahem, oh-so-copious spare time, but this has me so excited that I really can't say no. If I didn't do this, I'd probably spend the next year or two wondering why the hell I didn't.
So, the time is now. Or ... this weekend.

This is totally sweet. I'm excited that they have volounteer options. Hopefully you'll be doing something other than taking tickets. :o)
Yeah, the application has a list of things you're willing (or not willing) to do. Included are:
* retail (gift store)
* docent (tour guide)
* museum representative
* vehicle preparation (detailing)
* vehicle maintenance
* vehicle transportation
* vehicle assessment
I actually signed up for all of them. The rumor is that if you volunteer to work the cash register every now and then, you'll be much more likely to get the hot hot transportation jobs. And if you note that you'd only like to, "drive cars in parades," odds are good you won't really ever be called.

Getting to drive those cars would be amazing. I would have loved to even just sit in a number of cars at the Las Vegas auto show I went to last time I was out there. They had TWO RS200s!!! And yeah, maybe not the coolest, or oldest, or most intersting car - but I was blown away.
