The ups and downs of tracking your steps

As part of the 20/20 program, I've received a free1 pedometer. The purpose is, clearly, to monitor the amount of walking I do each day—and the purpose of monitoring the amount of walking I do is to ensure that I don't drop my usual walking workout levels while I'm actually working out at the gym five days a week.

The interesting thing is that the pedometer has a seven-day memory, and so I can fairly easily chart out my recent activity levels. If you'll take a look at the chart at the top of this post, you'll notice that I've got oddly periodic extents of ambulation.

Up, down, up, down. I'm not sure why this is—the middle two days {(4,4328), (5,2906)} even happened during the weekend.

Bizarre. I'm curious to see if this keeps happening.

This is basically the 20/20 cult's analog to the E-meter, isn't it?

I don't think so. All I'm trying to do is remove my [engrams|fat], and the [e-meter|pedometer] isn't the only way to do it. If you'd like, you could come and [get a free personality test|listen to an introductory seminar]. And if you complete the program, you could even become [clear|skinny] and be a [member of the Sea Org|personal trainer, and enjoy a studio apartment, crappy hours, and endless days of helping fatties on and off the stair-stepper].

Well this weekend you mostly drove around - didn't you? I don't think you get many steps that way. My guess is that you will normally have more steps on the weekend.

Oh yeah, true. But still, the fact that it's consistently up, then down, then up again is really pretty odd.
