Even though we're working hard to get the seller down on price, we're also working our asses off to figure out how much remodeling we can do pronto. Currently on the agenda is:
- Ripping out all of the acoustic popcorn and dropped soffits
- Taking down four walls, two each dividing the kitchen from the living room and dining/family room
- Tearing out carpet in every room but the kitchen
- Tearing out linoleum in the kitchen and dining room (that's right—they put carpet down directly over the old linoleum)
- Removing all of the kitchen appliances and cabinets
- Installing hardwood everywhere but the kitchen
- Installing tile in the kitchen
- Installing new cabinets in 75% of the locations where cabinets used to exist
- Building an island out of cabinets
- Moving the oven and cooktop so they're on the island, and are ventilated by a downdraft system plumbed through the crawlspace
- Installing granite tile in all of the countertops
I'm tired already. You can see now why we're not posting this until we've successfully negotiated the price of the house down.
