I'm usually skeptical about automotive parts or chemicals that aren't somehow used by manufacturers, mostly because the vast majority of the time, they're complete snake-oil. Any product which makes big claims but isn't yet snapped up by an automotive manufacturer or oil company (or something similar) is almost exclusively full of crap.
So the fact that several major oil companies sell a transmission stop-leak fluid is a good sign, because as you may be able to see in the above photograph (or perhaps remember from one of my earlier posts), the transmission on the truck leaks.
Most of these stop-leak formulae aren't compatible with the Type-F fluid used in Ford C6 transmissions built in 1976, however, so it's important to actually read the bottles if you have a 1976 Ford pickup. The local small parts store happened to have fluid that worked, and the transmission now doesn't appear to leak nearly as much.
Although I suppose I won't really know until it rains again, since the fluid leak is most apparent when there's a little trail of multicolored oil splotches that follows the truck's path across the townhouse unit.

I used the snake oil reference today first. Sadly, I have no working knowledge of html, so I lack the ability to link stuff to my blog. You win.
