Regular readers of /dev/null know that I'm not one to miss a day of posting. And even though several days of February and March went without posts on the main page, I actually was writing but not posting—because of the house purchase.
When we first got started on our house-hunting adventure, our realtor noted that once we put an offer on a house, the sellers may actually look us up on the intertubes to see if they could figure anything out about us. I certainly don't mind letting a seller know who we are, but I wasn't about to give them a play-by-play rundown of our thoughts as we go through the negotiation process.
But now that it's all finished, I'm ready to bring all the posts back.
So here are all of the hidden posts I wrote while house hunting. I've listed them here so you don't have to hunt through the archives, and I've also posted a quick note about what the content is so you don't have to read every one to know what's going on.
- How much does it cost to remove acoustic ceilings? (Feb. 24): Layla and I were considering a house that needed asbestos-lined acoustic ceilings removed from every room.
- Offer soonish (Feb. 25): We start assembling an offer on a fixer property near our old townhouse. At this point, we're still excited about doing a full remodel.
- The weird delay posts begin (Feb. 26): The realization that we may not want to be posting sets in.
- Offer accepted! (Mar. 2): The offer on this first house is accepted—after the seller counters with a price halfway between list and our asking price. We figure we'll take his counteroffer and hit him hard for a lower price after the inspection is done.
- Delay post of the day (Mar. 4): Some thoughts on how we're planning on remodeling this house. The numbers are really starting to add up!
- Inspection: complete (Mar. 5): This one is pretty obvious. The inspection surfaced lots of additional issues. We're starting to get concerned about the cost, but figure it's manageable as long as we get enough cash out of the seller.
- Negotiating (Mar. 7): We put together an unusual negotiation letter due to how we laid out our original offer.
- When negotiations go bad (Mar. 9): And the seller's response.
- And starting all over again (Mar. 11): We decided to start looking at houses again to make sure we didn't want to buy this house. We posted this after we saw a half-dozen houses and made up our minds to start over.
- The suburban verdict (Mar. 11): **** If there's only one to read in this series, this is it! It's a rundown of the most interesting houses we saw on our Blitzkrieg tour of the housing market.
- It's offer time (what I can't tell you right now) (Mar. 11): We found another house! This is the one we bought.
- Lower dwelling values FTW! (Mar. 12): An interesting note about structure values and insurance.
And that's all! The remaining posts are categorized in the Moving: House Hunting and Moving: Bellevue sections.
