I want to put 75' of fence across the back of the yard in order to separate us better from the unwashed townhomes behind us.
Contrary to the picture, this will be a traditional wooden fence.
I've got lots of helpful hints from around the office already, but has anyone, uhh, ever built a fence before?

Ask Newt Gingrich, he has all sorts of ideas about fence building to keep people better separated.
Hey—it's a friendship fence.
wow..great to see how your taking such good care of the house.
I've built a fence, but I'm not exactly near by to help. The fences I've built were 1) chain link and 2) wooden with steel poles. Here's the ultra-rough summary of how we built the wooden one: We dug holes for the posts. The galvanized steel posts were put in the holes with concrete to hold them. The wooden part was pre-fab panels of fence that had places where it was convenient to screw on a strap to go around the poles. It came as a sort of kit from some landscaping store. It was a bigish fence, being about 60 feet long and 8 feet high.

How long did it take you to put up the prefab unit? I'm planning on doing a full-on fence, so it'll likely take longer—but it's always good to have a ballpark estimate.

It was over a few full days of work in the summer; I don't remember for sure. I know it took a while to dig the holes and there was waiting for the concrete to set. Actually putting the fence on the posts went pretty quick.

Good to hear. My plan is to allocate a weekend for digging the holes, and will have an entire week to let the concrete dry before hanging the rails and the slats.
I've heard similar comments that a few days is about what it takes.
