I've got wood.

A lot of wood.

I bought this today for the imminent fence project tentatively scheduled for this weekend. As luck would have it, I couldn't find anyone burly to accompany me to buy all this damned wood, so I spent 45 minutes hauling lumber down from the racks onto two giant carts, another 30 minutes hauling it into the back of the truck, and yet another 30 getting it all out into the garage.

And since I'm a huge nerd, I busted out the bathroom scale and weighed out samples from each of the five categories of wood I bought.

I estimate the total weight at 1500 pounds (1512 without taking the number of significant figures into account)—which is good, because my F-250 is only rated for 1500 pounds of payload.

Luckily, I held off on buying some 60-pound bags of concrete mix specifically because I was concerned that I was getting close to the weight capacity of the truck. Points go to the part of my brain responsible for estimating weights and measures.

That truck would look a lot better with the rear bumper close to the ground after being overloaded with concrete. I wouldnt pay too close attention to load ratings anyway, my understanding is that they are based more on safety aspects like headlight angle after loading, braking time, tire capacity, etc. than the physical load characteristics of the truck. Realize that a heavy truck takes longer to stop than a light truck, dont drive a night, and make sure you aren't riding on your sidewalls after adding the load, and a small trip to the hardware store shouldn't be an issue.

Perhaps a little too close to the ground—I bottomed out the spare-tire hangar when I backed into the driveway with that load.

I'm worried most about the braking and the, uhh, breaking. The brakes aren't fantastic and first gear is a little shaky, so I'd rather not put megacrazy loads on it.

And in terms of overall load ... well, I remember when we loaded Paul's parent's GMC 2500 up with 50+ cubic feet of water, and last I checked, the truck still ran.

No idea if it looks like a swayback, though.

P.S. Ever rebuilt a C6?

No, I haven't. I had my C4 rebuilt multiple times until it finally worked properly, and now I am considering putting a Tremec TKO behind it.

Was that the C4 that locked up at 50mph?

Lets see, once it floated went in and out of gear, another time it locked up and came to a screeching hault in the middle of traffic, and another time the shifting became delayed, and when I got it home, it wouldnt turn over, as the front pump had broken and siezed. I hope you have better luck.

Lovely.

Built Ford tough!
