Not being a car guy... I don't understand how this guy lost all his tires at the same time. WTF? Did someone secret replace his lug nuts with new Foldgers Crystals?
The answer, as it turns out, is in the lugnuts.
The Mazda here is equipped with metric wheel studs—either 12mm x 1.5 or 12mm x 1.25 (I forget which). If you buy 1/2" SAE lug nuts, the nuts will thread on and present enough force to make you think you've tightened them.
But then, when you go around a corner, the threads will completely let go and let the tires pop off. And hilarity ensues.
