While in sunny (and damned hot) Canada, we're staying at Dashwood Manor, a bed & breakfast right outside downtown Victoria, BC.
This place was built back in 1912 and sports the age-appropriate Mock Tudor exterior with lots of dark wood paneling on the inside—except it's all tasteful, unlike the crappy 1970s paneling we've all come to know and love.
The building is also deceptively large; you can't really tell from the outside, but it features just under a dozen guest rooms (many of which are suites) and a handful of roomy common spaces. We're perched up on the top floor (underneath the leftmost peak) and have a full room, large bathroom, and wonderful view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and across it, the Olympic mountains in the northwest corner of Washington.
This is the first time Layla and I have stayed at a bed & breakfast while traveling, and I think we're going to visit these places more often in the future. This is far better than staying in a hotel.
