I've fixed the comments

| | Comments (0)

The short version is that comments have been disabled here for a day or two now, but if I find the comment system broken in the future, I'll be sure to notify you all, as the failure in the comment system typically isn't obvious until after you've submitted a comment. I know, it sucks.

The problem here was that all my flailing about installing new versions of Perl and MT4 didn't fully solve the resource consumption issue I hit before. Cracking open a copy of Process Explorer indicated that every time I got an incoming HTTP request to my comment script, I would burn through 20+MB of allocations pulling in a bunch of Perl crap like the whole MT library and MySQL and a bunch of other junk.

So I fitted a shim in above the MT comment engine that interceps the HTTP request and dumps it wholesale if some base requirements aren't met. I'm not going to tell you exactly what they are, but it's fairly effective and keeps the big spam floods from DoSing my box.

Progress.
