Kenna revisited

| | Comments (2)

It's been about three weeks since I originally commented on Kenna's sophomore release, Make Sure They See My Face, and I've spent an awful lot of that time listening to it.

I think I was a bit premature in my initial opinion, and I want to update that I feel this album has a lot more to offer than I initially gave it credit for. The tracks which I had originally pegged as disinteresting (e.g., Loose Wires) have significant depth when you get through them a handful of times. And as I've listened to it more, I've realized that the album is as well-rounded as Kenna's first release—although it's not nearly as accessible.

So take this as a correction—Make Sure They See My Face is just as good as New Sacred Cow, as long as you can sit through it a few times.

Hrmm I initially avoided it due to your first post and a lack of funds, but I might have to take a look at it. I loved New Sacred Cow, as you might recall.

Indeed! There are a handful of the punchier tracks available on Kenna's (ugh) Myspace page, albeit through flash players.

In retrospect, I think I had a similar reaction to New Sacred Cow when I first hear it. There are a number of tracks on both that feel a bit too brash when I first heard them, but fit in well with the rest of the album once I got my head wrapped around all of it.

Lastly, I think the album is worth the buy-in just for tracks like Face the Gun—the rest is just gravy.
