In MI some house exploded due to a Natual Gas leak that filled the basement and then finally ignited after it hose high enough to touch the pilot light of the warm water heater. The House was leveled and the elderly couple was litterally thrown from the house.

There was a bunch on this back in October - but most of it's gone to archives.

I don't know offhand, but I suspect natural gas is denser than air. If it is, that would explain its propensity to build up in crawlspaces and blow things up from time to time.

That is correct sir. It will build up at the lowest point in your house.

Or the lowest point in my trousers.
