Ich kann das verstehen

Taking a cue from Danny's recent post, I snagged two Wolfsheim albums from Zune: Spectators and Casting Shadows. The first thing I noticed was how much these guys sounded like Depeche Mode in Lederhosen, but once I got past that I realized I could actually understand the songs these guys sing in German.

Now, most of the time I have a hard time paying enough attention to music to figure out what's being said, even in English—so when I hear something in German and my brain actually deciphers what the hell is going on (and it's not numbingly stupid stuff) then it's notable enough to post about.

But not notable beyond that. At least, I haven't listened to enough of it to really know.

In other news, I've been listening to a lot of music by the group Air lately, which is entirely different because they're from France. Their early albums are fantastic (Moon Safari and 10,000 Hz), their later work is damned good (Talkie Walkie and Pocket Symphony) and the soundtrack they did for the film The Virgin Suicides is so damned awesome that I now want to watch the movie, too.

Incidentally, this is almost exactly why I got interested in The Thin Blue Line a while back. Note to movie producers: find some obscure avant-garde musician to score your film and odds are good I'll find out and watch it.

I'm a pretty big fan of Talkie Walkie. Good stuff. I've recently discovered the self proclaimed "Pajama Pop" of lullatone. Kinda related to Air in that mashed up in the brain sort of way that probably doesn't actually make sense to anyone else, but there you go.

I didn't realize that air was actually producing more stuff. That's good to here and I will have to look into purchasing more of it. Agreed about the Virgin Suicides, that piano riff was so unbelievably amazing that I can hear it playing *right now*.

I get the feeling that saying I like Wolfsheim is a lot like someone from Germany saying they like Justin Timberlake. :)

Rob-
ooOOooOo interesting. I'm having a really difficult time finding artists who produce stuff similar to Air. The best recommendation I've heard is "Daft Punk, because they're French too."

Danny-
Or Hasslehoff.

Wolfsheim is indeed good stuff. Kein zuück (Casting Shadows, track 5 or so) is an old favourite of mine. I should check out their newer stuff, thanks for the tip!

Oddly, Kein Zurück is the track where I realized, "hey, I get this."
