Dog-leg shifter

| | Comments (2)

4-cylinder Porsche 914s all featured 901 transmissions from the factory. The interesting thing about the 901 in the 914 is that it's got a dog-leg shift pattern, meaning that reverse is where 1st is on most transmissions, and 1st is where 2nd usually is (and so forth). You can see the shift pattern at right.

I've talked about dog-leg transmissions in the past, so I won't reiterate the details—except to say that if you're looking for a car with a dog-leg transmission, I certainly can recommend the 914.

What is that little red lever at the below the shifter? Super Pursuit Mode?

That's the ... defroster. And it's completely separate from the other heating and ventilation controls, which are up on the dashboard.

This is what happens when you put an air-cooled engine in the back of the car.
