Yellow was his favorite color

The world seems to be woven a little cozier when stuff like this turns up.

Holly crap, that brings a tear to my eye. Good ol' Barefoot, right up there with the best of 'em.

I remember when he subed for Schafier in linear, that was probably the only day i learned anything in that class.

I have nothing but fond memories of Dr. Barefoot. I had him for Cryptography - just a semester or so before he died.

The class was a joy for me. He would start a proof, or begin discussing a crypto system in a very matter of fact, business-like manner. As he built the structures surrounding the logic of the proof, or the keys to the cryptanalysis, you could literally see a twinkle in his eye. Then, by the time he had stated the final piece, he would have this grin on his face, and an excitement in his voice. It was infectious.

And there is nothing cooler than being handed an encrypted syllabus at the start of class which you eventually had to crack for homework.

Thanks for linking this, Dan. It makes me happy to know that he is remembered.

Absolutely. Remembering is good; knowing that others remember is good, too.
