The King of Kong

Layla and I recently watched The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, about the still-fervent races to set record scores on classic arcade games like Donkey Kong and...well, it's mostly about Donkey Kong.

This is great stuff even if you aren't into Galaga and such. It's a good story about newcomers to a long-standing organization, and how difficult it can be to fight against seemingly arbitrary and inconsistent policies.

One interesting point is that one of the main subjects of the documentary, Steve Wiebe, is a teacher in a middle school near really close to where Layla and I used to live. The film also paints Billy Mitchell as a huge d-bag, although I admit I've never the met the guy and the film itself plays a huge part in how he's represented. But...he still seems like a dick.

Hey I just happened to be thinkin about you and saw this post. I watched this movie a couple months ago and loved it. My favorite line: "I don't understand why getting in [the Guiness Book] is such a big deal.... it seems like a lot of people ruin their lives trying to get into it."

Anyway, hey did you know a guy named Scott Borror at tech?

Yeah, indeed!

Nope, didn't know anyone by that name. Context?

I think he was in a MS program at Tech either in Optical Engineering, or Mech E. I work with him. He's really annoying.

Hahahaha hilarious. Probably Mech E., since the optics program was really tiny by the time I left and I'm pretty sure I knew everyone involved.
