Slotted sockets

| | Comments (5)

One of the items I should probably replace in getting the 914 running again is a small temperature sensor wired into the cylinder head. Said sensor has a ~6" pigtail connector hanging off of it, much like an O2 sensor.

The thing is that even if I had a slotted socket for removing O2 sensors, this thing is way smaller than most of those (it's only 13mm). And it's also set deep in the cylinder head, so something like a go-through socket wouldn't work.

So instead of hunting down a slotted deep-well 13mm socket or hunting down a cheap one to carve into a slotted socket, I'm left wondering if someone makes a slotted 3/8" socket driver with a slot in it instead, so I can just run the wire through the middle of the socket and through the slot in the driver. Any help?

P.S. Harbor Freight doesn't appear to have much, so there go my chances for finding this cheaply.

P.P.S. Maybe I should actually, you know, make this post go live.

My brother replaced this sensor a couple of times on his bus (same engine basically). and I'm sure he didnt have a slotted socket to do it.

I'll ask him.

Yeah this is the TS2 sensor between cylinders 3 and 4. That would be awesome, thanks!

Leif says he unplugs it folds the wire in half, stuffs the wire into a deep well and proceeds from there.

Well shit, that'll probably work.

...no, that didn't work at all. I'll just hack up a socket later.

Maybe I could grind the corner off of the square shaft of an unused 3/8" extension.
