Used commuter bikes

| | Comments (2)

I'm finding that used commuter bikes constitute an awfully rough market. 90% of the bikes posted for sale in the first place are either race bikes, mountain bikes, or for kids—and of the remaining 10%, all of the sub-$500 items are snapped up long before I find the ads.

Why don't you just get a mountain bike and put smooth tires on it?

That's a good point. I sortof wrote them all off since nearly all have front suspension, and I don't really want front suspension on a road bike.

But something older would probably work. I suppose a $50 mid-1990s mountain bike and $100 in parts would probably make a pretty decent commuter.

Thanks!
