Totally frayed clutch cable

| | Comments (2)

My replacement clutch cable arrived in the mail yesterday1 so I spent nearly all day pulling out and replacing the clutch cable, accelerator cable, and all of the bushings in the shifter linkage.

This is the clutch cable that I removed from the car. Of the four big strands of woven steel, two had come completely undone. The process of removing the cable isn't particularly violent (at least, not toward the cable) so all of this damage occured while the cable was still in the car.

Good thing I replaced it now. I figure I had a few more weeks until it went. And, it was chewing up my synchros while it was stretching.

1 Two business days ahead of schedule. Great hustle, Pelican Parts and FedEx.
