Transmission replacement: day 1

| | Comments (2)

The words "day 1" in the title of this post may tip you off to the fact that although I started replacing the transmission on my truck today, I did not actually finish it.

I did get the whole mess pulled out of the car by around 2:30pm, though, and spent the next three hours cursing like a sailor as I manhandled the beeftastic C6 up onto a jack and positioned it behind the engine. I didn't even get it fully in place—after I finally got a bolt threaded through the transmission and into the engine block, I noticed that the torque converter bolts were in the wrong holes in the flex plate. D'oh.

So first thing tomorrow I'll pull the transmission back off the engine and push it back forward. Something similar happened on the 3 but the manual transmission on the BMW was downright willowy compared to the slug of steel that is the C6. And yes, it's at least twice as difficult to maneuver such a heavy transmission underneath the vehicle.

At least I didn't have to put the truck up on jack stands.

Is that a new form of Pilates?

Yeah it's my new flex-and-flatulate move.
