I'm huuuge! ... in Japan

I'm going to Japan later this year on business. For those of you who don't know, Japan is that island right off of Korea, known as a country where everyone eats raw fish with sticks, and where anyone can purchase myriad fetish accessories from vending machines. Also, they invented Pachinko.

I'll be spending a few days in Tokyo to do work stuff, but will be sticking around for a solid week to try my hand at traveling the country.

Things I've identified that I'd like to do so far:

  • Ride the shinkansen
  • Stay in a capsule hotel
  • Drive ... something (not sure how I'll manage this)
  • Buy something absolutely crazy from a vending machine
  • Go to the Mazda museum in Hiroshima
  • Spend my entire bonus at Akihabara
  • Authentic karaoke (will probably do this with coworkers)
  • Smash, swat
  • Push all of the buttons on an automated toilet
  • Spend a bunch of time outside Tokyo
  • Swords

Anything I'm missing?

Yeah I considered that. The biggest problem is that I'm packing for walking around cities in reasonably not-freezing weather (12-20 degrees) but Fuji would demand hiking gear fit for a good deal cooler. But I'm still trying to figure out how I could make it work.

The guides all indicate it's a 1,500m ascent from the 5th camp to the summit. Any idea how long it would take to climb this at a moderate pace, approximately?

I'd use this site for any estimates on time as well as route info, etc. My guess is it would take you the better part of a full day to climb up and down.

The real problem is that there's going to be snow on there in the late fall/winter and that will rule out an easy walk-up. In mid summer I think you can do it with no special gear, just a backpack full of snacks and water, a light jacket, and some sturdy shoes/light boots.

Late November to May or June are best times to climb this peak under snow. Be sure to bring your crampons and ice axe as the routes can get icy near the summit.

Uhhh yeah maybe that's a little beyond my comfort range at the moment.

Dont forget to flaunt your huge amecian penis amongst the lesser squinty eyes.

Not sure what the conversion rate is now, but if its anything like the dollar to the pound, it shouldnt be hard to blow a bonus in one trip shopping.

Even my Bill Gates Bucks aren't worth what they used to be.
