Nihongo (pt. 2)

I studied Japanese at school but it was primarily because I had an interest in languages (any of them, really) and because I needed a hobby. I've gotten back into it on and off in the years since I finished my undergraduate work, but nevef got too far since my job and other hobbies would often pop up. But with my upcoming trip to Japan fully booked, I now—and for the first time—have a concrete need and deadline for improving my profiency in the language.

So in the weeks since I bought my flight, and especially this last week on Kauai, I've picked up far more Japanese than since I was last in a classroom, circa 2003.

Hopefully I'll be able to be somewhat functional while there and avoid, say, accidentally ordering herring roe1 for breakfast.

1 It's crunchy!
