I'm totally sick of dealing with byte ordering. I'd be completely satisfied never having to deal with another byte ordering problem ever again.

I agree. I have to regularly deal with using CAPI and CNG with smart cards. Most smart cards are big-endian (as is CNG), but CAPI is little-endian so we have to pepper byte reversal logic in several places. It's annoying.
