This is the 500-series Shinkansen train set, which is reportedly the fastest train in the whole lineup. I haven't (and won't) had a chance to ride on one of these, since they're reserved for Nozomi service, which my rail pass doesn't cover.
I've spent a lot of time on the duck-billed 700 and N700 trains, and am riding today on a decidedly helmet-faced 300. That's why you're seeing so many posts from me in the last hour or so—I'm sitting here with my laptop unloading photos and catching up on posts and email.
