Here's a travel tip for those of you who will be spending more than a day or two out of your home: bring along a trash bag for dirty clothes, a ziplock freezer bag for electronic miscellany, and a manila envelope for paperwork. Your sanity will thank you later. Additionally, I also have a few straps (really, just staps with buckles: you can get them anywhere that sells camping equipment) for tying together bundles of clothes. It's not absolutely necessary if you follow the "trash bag" rule, though.
The manila envelope is particularly helpful if you're on a business trip and are saving your receipts. Instead of tossing them in your wallet (where they get mangled) or in your bag (where they get pulled out every time you fish for your itinerary) keeping them in a manila envelope keeps them organized and well-pressed. Plus, you don't have to sort receipts during the trip: just toss everything in there and sort if out when you get home.
The freezer bag for electronics is really most helpful if you're a huge electronic nut, like me. On this trip to Japan, I've got three chargers (laptop, camera, watch), three USB cables (hard drive, watch, Zune), an ethernet cable, and a pair of headphones. Keeping all of this in one place is a huge bonus.
Lastly, the trash bag is useful in the mornings whenever you're half-drunk tired and are trying to get dressed. Keeping dirty clothes isolated from the others keeps the funk down, too. ...until you open the bag. I recommend a hazmat suit for that.
