This is the dashboard of my Ford Focus rental car. Three things to note:
- These gauges are unreadable. Seriously, this whole white-with-grey-rim nonsense and the gear motif makes it incredibly difficult to tell what speed you're actually traveling1. I also just realized that I'm old.
- The radio rings are non-OCD-compatible. The volume and tuner knobs are three-bladed things that don't look right when they're not straight up or down. I often find myself listening to the radio a little too quietly or loudly only because the knob looked better in that position. Am I weird2?
- Wide-angle win. I took this picture with the 28mm-equivalent lens on the SD870 without reclining the seat on the seat in my usual decidedly bolt-upright non-gangsta configuration3. Anyone with a crappy digicam will (likely?) appreciate how difficult it can be to get reasonably wide close-quarters shots...like this one.
1 well, you always know you're going "slowly." Did I mention this was a Focus?
2 Indoubetably.
3 my rims are quite sta-tion-a-ry.

It comes to me as no surprise they are on the brink of destruction. I wonder if their plan is to tide over for 3 months with Gov't loans and then go into Chapter 11 to do the restructuring they are going to architect during those 3 months...
I looked closely and I don't get it. Is the airbag in the steering wheel deployed by a trumpet?
Sortof. It works like the floatation vests on an airplane: if the airbag fails to deploy automatically, you can affix your lips to the trumpet on the steering wheen and inflate it manually.
