Winchester Mystery House

I had 90 minutes to burn in San Jose after visiting the Fry's in Sunnyvale (super-secret work business1) so I went to the Winchester Mystery House.

The house (mansion, really) is a labyrinthine mass of interconnected rooms scattered across 40 vertical feet (most rooms are not on integer floors) and nearly 5 acres of land. The urban legend when I was growing up was that Mrs. Winchester feared the ghosts of the Indians slain by Winchester repeating rifles, and that she built this house to confuses and appease the spirits. Really, though, I get the impression she was only a mild-grade nutball and was only following the advice that she keep the construction workers busy until the end of eternity.

Incredibly amusing place. I recall Rob. E. mentioned this spot a while back.

1 I needed some laptop memory and a screwdriver.
