I think I want my old truck back

Not this old truck, this old truck.

I took the F-250 down to Dan Fast Muffler & Brakes yesterday and they did a great job fixing the horrendous exhaust problems on the vehicle. In fact, they fixed it too well.

See, the truck used to make a ton of grunty big truck noises. It was losing lots of the exhaust immediately after the header, and it sounded incredibly good. Of course, it was also loud enough to break windows, so that sucked lots.

Now the exhaust is so quiet that the only things of it you can hear are the leaking exhaust gaskets. Since this is an FE engine, the odds of my successfully and permanently fixing the exhaust gaskets (without busting any header bolts) is almost exactly 0.

Anyway, I've traded in a loud exhaust burble for a hissing tick noise from the gaskets. Weak.

To be fair, the guys at Dan Fast did tell me it would be a lot quieter than it was now, and noted that maybe it would be time to go with a set of dual exhausts intead. But ultimately this is really only a work truck so I guess I'll just suck it up and enjoy the quiet.

You can either get a big megaphone exhaust tip or attack the new muffler with a drill bit, your choice.

Years ago in Socorro I recall someone commented on some exhaust system (maybe it was my 4Runner? maybe someone else's car?) and mentioned that it looked like, "a monkey with a drill climbed up there."
