Rich and I went snowboarding today. The mountain has gotten above freezing nearly every day this last week, and the cycle of melting and freezing has resulted in awful conditions. The groomed runs were rock-hard and slick, and the areas where the powder usually is was covered in big frozen ice lumps.
It was so bad that Rich and I slid practically the entire way down the Borealis run on our asses. It was impossible to stand up, and even if we did, there was no way to actually ride an edge down the "hill," which was more like an ice face with jaggies all over the place.
On the upside, both the Skid Road and Skyline runs had a pretty healthy layer of heavier snow on them, so those were pretty decent. Too bad we didn't find them until the end of the day.
Boarding is still boarding, though—good snow or bad. Or in this case, very bad.
P.S. The photo here is from the parking lot, where someone had both the front and rear bumpers removed from their Golf. I'm not sure if they were ripped off in the snow or if the owner preëmptively removed them for the wintery season, but the car looked pretty silly without them.
