Fuel tank removal success

| | Comments (2)

I've removed the fuel tank in the 914 in order to inspect and fix the blower motor, and to replace the assuredly leaking fuel lines coming off the bottom of the tank.

The biggest problems were the fuel lines themselves, which I had to cut through to remove from the fuel pump, so I could then cut through more lines it was blocking. Lots of cutting, but I'm pretty sure these lines were all original, and they all need to be replaced.

I finally got the tank removed and have bolted the inlet back onto it so the trace gasoline in the bottom doesn't evaporate and fume out my garage (again). I hate working with gasoline.

Now I just have to clean up the blower area and figure out why it's not working particularly well. You can see the original yellow paint in the photo above, as well as the rust deposits left behind from ... well, some part of the car that happened to be rusting. The whole car is like that, really.

paint those wiper arms.

They're pretty black, but they're less glossy than the body so they illuminate more in the camera flash. A shot in the daylight is a little closer to how you'd see them if you don't have a spotlight attached to your head.
